Project MuszEd's  'Acoustic Evening for Music Education'

A heartfelt thanks to all who supported our first gala fundraiser!  The evening proved to be a success in more ways than one.  Guests were whisked into an exotic Moroccan tent as musicians from Art Share started their evening serenade. Special thanks to the Guitar Ensemble under the instruction of Dave Rona, guitarist Carlos Camacho and The Young Voices Ensemble under the direction of Radha Botofasina.

Highlights of the evening included a duet performance of "Teen Town" by bassist and Berklee Summer Scholarship recipient, Kiblah Delgado along with noted drummer. Franklin Vanderbilt.  The APCH Jazz Ensemble, which includes of 8 year old drummer Afiya Patterson, 10 year old keyboardist Rodrigo Moreno, 10 year old percussionist Jonathan Espina and 15 year old guitarist Aroyn Davis, opened the evening with Sun Goddess, which was originally performed by Ramsey Lewis and Earth Wind & Fire.  Later during the evening, the ensemble re-birthed the cool with their performance of Benny Golson's "Killer Joe."  Rodrigo Moreno encouraged audience participation.  After a 2 minute standing ovation from the audience, the ensemble was introduced to yet another thundering round of applause.

Our host, Eddie Steeples, was incredible!  Eddie even donated a generous $1,000 to our cause!  Honorees Macy Gray and Ndugu Chancler were not only recognized by Project MuszEd for their accomplishments, but also by Councilwoman Jan Perry, who presented the honorees with a certificate of recognition from the City of Los Angeles.

Legendary guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr. performed with PM's Danyol Metcalf for a beautifully crafted version of "These Foolish Things." Paul joined us again for the finale performance of Macy Gray's "I Try."  We were also surprised and honored when PM Honoree Ndugu Chancler jumped on the drums to hold down the beat.  It was truly a magical evening that brought tears to our eyes and joy to our hearts.

All in all, it was a very wonderful event that could not have happened without the support of our many new friends and sponsors.  Because of their generosity, we were able to send Kiblah Delgado to Berklee College of Music in Boston for five weeks; continue The Young Voices Ensemble and add a pianist at Art Share; provide piano, guitar and vocal instructor for A Place Called Home. We were also able to purchase much needed equipment for the programs.

A special thanks to Macy Gray and The M. Gray Academy of Music, who generously donated 2 scholarships to the MGMA Star Music Camp.  Two lucky students were chosen to benefit from this wonderful opportunity.

Our guests dined from a sumptuous Italian buffet, courtesy of Victorio's Ristorante of North HollywoodBartender In  A Box and Hemisphere Imports/ Exports provided us with wonderful beverages. A generous thank you to these wonde3rful businesses for supporting our event!

We certainly anticipate doing much more.  This is why your support is imperative!

Please keep visiting us and checking out our event calendar to see how you can support this very important mission.
